Confindustria ANCMA: the Registry Cycle arrives

Confindustria ANCMA try to put a stop to the hateful phenomenon of bicycle theft which affects over 320 thousand people every year. The National Cycle Motorcycle Accessories Association, at the end of BiciAcademy, the training event dedicated to shopkeepers in the cycle sector organized by the association at the Palacongressi in Rimini, launched a new proposal to introduce the Register Cycle.

Registry Cycle: what it is and how it works

The Ciclo Registro is a web portal on which it will be possible to register the frame number of the bicycles sold and produce - free of charge - a digital certificate of ownership. The initiative promoted by Confindustria ANCMA was born with the desire to combine all the best existing online experiences in a single platform in order to cross-reference information and improve the service. The construction of a database of the fleet in circulation is in fact a first step towards solving the problem which would allow, for example, the police to immediately identify if a bicycle is stolen and who its legitimate owner is. Furthermore, this project definitively opens the way for insurance companies to offer specific products and coverage for cyclists, which currently do not exist. “The one about bicycle thefts – explained the president of the association Andrea Dell'Orto - it is a plague that has taken on an important dimension in Italy and especially in large urban centres, especially if we also consider the victims who do not file a complaint. Those who are victims of theft very often find themselves helpless and are unlikely to decide to reinvest significant sums in the purchase of a new bicycle or a more expensive and high-performance vehicle, but prefer to choose a used or cheaper product”. Once fully operational, the Registry Cycle will also contribute to regulating the second-hand market, which due to theft is also polluted by theft and the potential risk of careless purchases or sales.
