Highway code: in the new bill there are also changes for the circulation of electric scooters

Presented for examination cabinet un new text of the highway code, before the examination in the Chambers. Various new features have emerged regarding circulation and measures. If we consider only two-wheeled vehicles, obligations and limits emerge for circulation on them electric scooters and maintaining a certain distance from bicycles during overtaking.

The newness

Starting from the circulation of electric scooters, we point out the mandatory use of a helmet when traveling on these vehicles, as well as having insurance. Obligations to be added to the presence of directional indicators on the vehicle. There is also talk of sanctions for parking on pavements and automatic limits for rental vehicles, which cannot circulate where it is not permitted.
Moving on to those who move in bicycle, instead, refers to “cycling areas” near traffic lights, as well as an obligation for those driving motorized vehicles to maintain a distance of one and a half meters from their bicycles when overtaking.
Numerous new features have emerged if we consider the general text, for example the provisions against those who drive under the influence of drugs and alcohol, with the immediate suspension of the license for those who have taken drugs and the adoption of a “alcohol lock” device which blocks the ignition of the vehicle in the other case. In the most serious situations, the license can even be withdrawn for life.
Among the measures, we highlight the impossibility for new drivers to drive cars of a certain power, if not after the third year from obtaining the license and a restriction on those who drive and use the telephone at the same time or who drive against traffic or even exhibit which can endanger other road users, in all these cases there is also talk of suspension of the document. Suspension that is also triggered in the case of a new point deduction for a violation, when the score is already below the 20 point threshold.
