Claudio Domenicali has been appointed Honorary Investor Advisor of the Thai Board of Investment
Motorcycle production in Thailand is poised to grow by 15% in 2017
Claudio Domenicali – Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, has been awarded the title of Honorary Investor Advisor (HIA) by the Board of Investment (BOI) of the Thai Government. The appointment was formalized during an official BOI meeting in Bangkok, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister His Excellency Somkid Jatusripitak, where Domenicali participated accompanied by Gabriele Piaggio, General Manager Ducati Motor Thailand. During the meeting, the current investment strategies of foreign companies operating in Thailand were discussed and, during the meeting, Claudio Domenicali was officially awarded as Honorary Investor Advisor of this commission.
On the same day, together with the other HIA members, Domenicali also met the Prime Minister of Thailand, His Excellency General Prayut Chan-o-Cha, for a courtesy visit which took place in the Thai Government Palace. "Ducati's desire to build a production plant in Thailand was strategic for our global growth plan and the support we received from the BOI was fundamental“, said Domenicali. “I am proud to have been awarded the position of Honorary Investor Advisor within the Thai Board Of Investment and equally proud of the quality and efficiency achieved in our Ducati Motor Thailand structure. Part of the VW-Audi Group, Ducati brings its excellence to the Asian Region as well as to the rest of the world".
The project to build the Ducati Motor Thailand plant, located approximately 150 kilometers south of Bangkok in the Rayong industrial district, began in 2010 in agreement with the Thai BOI. Production started in 2011 with motorcycles from the Monster family. Ducati Motor Thailand has a facility of over 45,000 square meters, currently employs 200 people and produces almost the entire range of Ducati motorcycles for the Asian markets. For 2017 the Thai plant expects a 15% increase in production compared to last year.
In 2016 Ducati delivered 55,451 motorcycles worldwide, achieving an increase in sales of 1.2% on the record achieved in 2015, confirming the positive growth trend that has characterized the Bolognese motorcycle manufacturer for seven consecutive years.
