Historic Chiara Fontanesi: she is the world champion
The 18 year old from Parma became world champion in the WMX class
Last Thursday she came very close to her goal, but had to give up the World title by just one point. This time she did it, on a sunny Saturday in August, August 18, 2012, a day that will remain indelible in her memory but also in the history of motocross.
We are talking about Chiara Fontanesi, an 18 year old from Parma who became world champion in the class WMX in the second heat of English GP of cross. She is the first Italian to reach this long-awaited goal, a worthy culmination of a season experienced by her as a protagonist.
Chiara risked falling at the third corner in an attempt to overtake Livia Lancelot. She fell but she got back up again, starting last again and recovering positions as only a champion can do, finishing third behind Lancelot and Nathalie Kane. Third step of the podium and world crown for Chiara who now just has to enjoy the party.
“I'm happy, I won the world championship, but I still can't fully savor it. I wanted to win the heat and when I fell I told myself it wasn't possible – explained the fresh champion at the end of the race -. I set off again, but I was stiff and couldn't drive as I wanted. So I thought about finishing third and finishing second in the Grand Prix. I wanted to win and now I'm world champion. I dedicate the victory to my parents, the team and all those who love me. I have a mix of sensations that I can't explain"he concluded.
