Carducci SC3 ADVENTURE an all terrain HD

A radical special, the V-Twin and little else remain from the Sportster

Suppose that one day, you, the owner of a fantastic HD 883, wake up and feel an unstoppable, uncontainable desire to go off-road... but you are inebriated by the taste of "good vibrations", you don't want to separate yourself from the rhythmic pulsation of your motorbike . What to do then? Drastic solution. Readjust your rider skills with a nice enduro bike to explore lands without asphalt; but then you would be betraying the Stars and Stripes brand. So let's make room for it non-conformist solution! Harley and off-road vehicles... well, now there's a solution. Is called SC3 ADVENTURE and is produced by a small American factory, the Carducci Dual Sport. Jim Carducci and his company enjoy forty years of experience in the world of motorcycling, from construction to competitions.

Starting from one base HD 1200 or 883 Sportster, has created a motorcycle with an all-rounder DNA like a BMW GS, or KTM, passing through Kawasaki with the multifaceted KLR 650. The shapes of this SC3 ADVENTURE are a sort of attractive nonsense; the design leitmotif is "design at the service of functionality". Jim, thanks to his qualities and skills as a CAD and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) designer, started working around the Milwaukee V-Twin. The biggest challenge was finding the right geometry to apply to the stock Sportster frame, the various dimensions, and consequently applying the best chassis for on-off use.

After much work, the latest 2014 upgrade sees the use of Ohlins suspensions: in front there is an adjustable 48 mm USD, while at the back there is a fine and simple aluminum swingarm and a pair of shock absorbers. The entirely handmade tank, designed second, is very beautiful a sinuous and organic design, with the aim of always keeping the fuel (6 gallons of capacity, almost 23 litres) at the lowest and most advanced point possible, for the best distribution of masses.

What remains of the original Sportster? Footpegs and levers are all made specifically for the new all-terrain use. The wiring, the throttle control and the instrumentation remain. The braking system remains the stock one, except for the more specialized disc and front caliper and provided by Braking. Just above the carbon mudguard, the large round headlight (also available with LED like the rear light) which in turn is surmounted by a small fairing supported by an aluminum shelf. The wheels – strictly spoked – are 140/80-18 at the rear, 90/90-21 at the front.

No changes to the HD twin-cylinder, only the final drive passes from the original belt to the chain. The exhaust system has been completely revised: now a set of welded pipes form the circuit of the collectors up to the small high Leovince exhaust.

The bike immediately aroused enthusiasm and production will begin in early 2014. To have it you need a Sportster 883 or 1200 and… dollars 47.000!! The motorbike is customizable according to your preferences drawing on various aftermarket parts catalogs or directly made by the Sunnyvale factory. In addition to the price, exclusivity also has the flaw of quantity, because the good Jim Carducci has in mind to produce only 6 per year!
