On 20 August 1978 Virginio Ferrari, riding a team Suzuki RG500
Gallina, equipped with Brembo, achieved success in the 500cc class at the West German GP on the legendary Nürburgring circuit.

At the time, Brembo had just a hundred employees and the unofficial Suzuki driven by the Italian rider in the then premier class of the world championship, had Brembo 2 mm Gold Series 38-piston calipers, a 15,87 Brembo axial pump and of 2 280 mm cast iron front discs.

Today, Brembo has over 10.000 employees and as of July 30, 2018, 472 victories have been accumulated: to give an idea of the importance of the Italian company in 500-MotoGP, just think that the latest victory of a motorcycle without Brembo brakes in the premier class of the world championship dates back to 21 May 1995.

Over the last 23 years, practically almost all riders have always chosen Brembo braking systems and without any impositions from the regulations.

The person who has won the most with Brembo is Valentino Rossi: 89 victories in the premier class, putting his seal on victory number 200 (GP Brazil 2002) and 300 (GP San Marino 2008).

The 100th victory was achieved by Mick Doohan who, with 54 races won with Brembo brakes, ranks second in this special ranking: precisely for him, victim of a terrible accident at Assen in 1992 which had compromised the full functionality of the right leg, Brembo technicians created the thumb pump in order to remedy the impairment.

As for the manufacturers, Honda leads in terms of number of victories with Brembo brakes, 236, then Yamaha with 176, Ducati with 42 and Suzuki with 14.

Thanks to continuous attention to innovation and performance, Brembo has strengthened Italy's role of excellence in racing components: the innovations introduced in these 4 decades, from the monobloc caliper to the
thumb pump, from the caliper to the radial attachments and up to the carbon discs for use in the wet, have led 100% of the riders in the premier class to use exclusively Brembo brakes starting from the 2016 season.

An important recognition.
