Bosch Motorcycle Stability Control, the angel of motorcyclists

If you crash while taking a turn on your motorbike suddenly an obstacle, even the most experienced motorcyclist would find himself in difficulty. If he were to brake, both the front and rear wheels would lose grip and slip, making it impossible for the motorcyclist to control the vehicle. The new Bosch Motorcycle Stability Control (MSC) supports motorcyclists in case of sudden braking when cornering. This technology would allow prevent thousands of critical situations, significantly reducing the number of accidents while cornering.

If you brake or accelerate too hard, the MCS system reduces the braking pressure or acceleration to a level that allow safe steering. The first application of the system took place at the end of 2013 for motorbikes KTM 1190 Adventure and Adventure R. Today the ADAC awarded the Bosch MCS system the Yellow Angel Award 2014 in the “Innovation and Environment” category, recognizing the effectiveness of this technology. This is the second Yellow Angel awarded to Bosch technologies for motorcycle safety: already in 2010 the ADAC awarded the Yellow Angel award to the Bosch ABS 9, specific for two wheels.

The MSC combines a wide range of safety functions both when braking and accelerating, both straight and cornering. Compatibly with the laws of physics this system works even when the motorbike is very inclined. To achieve this, the experts at the Bosch Two-Wheel Safety Competence Center, based in Japan, combined a series of sensors with the powerful existing ABS. These sensors can measure or calculate inclination and movements rotators on all axes more than 100 times per second. This allows you to very quickly adjust the pressure and distribution of braking and engine torque. The effectiveness of the MCS system places it on a par with other major Bosch safety innovations. “Motorcycle Stability Control it is the ESP of two wheels”, says Steiger.
