Bosch – Bosch intends to reposition itself as a major player in the global motorcycle market. The technology and services company is in the process of bringing together its activities in the areas of driving safety systems, transmission technology and display instruments into a single business unit, the newly formed “Two-Wheeler and Powersports.” The aim is to respond to the individual needs of motorcycle manufacturers around the world even more effectively.

Bosch is looking to expand its product portfolio and strengthen its expertise in system solutions related to the world of two wheels. "Bosch technology for greater efficiency and safety must be part of any car, and in the future, any motorcycle“, said Dirk Hoheisel, member of the management board of Robert Bosch GmbH. “We aim to become a leading supplier also in the motorcycle market.” Two-Wheeler and Powersports is part of the Bosch Mobility Solutions sector.

The motorcycle market expects to double its sales volumes within five years globally and, therefore, the need for sustainable mobility is sharply increasing, and this is also driving the demand for two-wheeler engines. Studies indicate that by 2021, more than 160 million two-wheeled vehicles will be produced each year, a third more than today. “The share of the market relevant to Bosch, which covers driving safety systems, drive technology and infotainment systems, will double in the next five years“added Hoheisel. Most of this growth will take place in Asia, as studies suggest. In fact, it is expected that in 2021 almost 90 percent of all motorized two-wheeled vehicles will be made in China, India and South East Asia. The main protagonists will be products with a displacement of up to 250 cubic centimeters, one of the most common means of transport used throughout Asia.

Bosch's new business unit will offer safety solutions such as ABS and Motorcycle Stability Control (MSC), a type of ESP for motorcycles.
