Bike Bonus, Confindustria ANCMA: compared to 2019, a 60% increase in sales in May
Estimated around 200 thousand more units, not only thanks to incentives
From the reopening of commercial establishments to now, taking into account the indications on the bicycle market, the data linked to traditional and pedal-assisted bicycles suggest “a +60% compared to the same period last year”. In the note sent by Confindustria ANCMA (National Association of Cycle Motorcycle Accessories) it is estimated: “an increase of around 200 thousand pieces sold in the month of May alone compared to 2019”.
Opportunities and infrastructure
The statement also states: “At the same time we will monitor the actual application of the bonus, so that it is not an obstacle race for consumers and retailers or, worse, against time”. And with the renewed interest, an appeal is made to the institutions to make this appear as one "occasion" to invest in infrastructure and shape a cycle network “finally more widespread, safe, balanced and respectful of the interests of all road users”.
Positive numbers
They are highlighted in the press release “around 540 thousand” bicycles purchased in Italy following the lockdown throughout the entire territory. A figure, according to ANCMA, which is increasing "even outside the restrictions identified by the Government's measures (regional and provincial capitals even under 50.000 inhabitants, in municipalities with a population greater than 50.000 inhabitants and in the municipalities of metropolitan cities), thus homogeneously affecting even less populous territories", taking the note again.
