The new BMW S 1000 RR, presented during EICMA 2018, is now ready to land in dealerships, but first let's look at it in detail.

Compared to the previous model, the BMW S 1000 RR features new suspension and a new engine. The weight has been reduced by 11 kg, from 208 to 197 kg which becomes 193.5 kg with the M package. The new engine gains 8 HP compared to the previous version, bringing the horsepower to 207 HP. The engine is equipped with the BMW ShiftCam system, for the first time on a motorcycle from the Elica company, the system controls the valve timing. As already mentioned, the suspension department has also been entirely revised from both a kinematic and electronic point of view.

The motorbike was designed to 'attack curbs', but various aspects and accessories make it a vehicle for everyday use, such as the new ABS and Hill Start Control systems. The RR is equipped with four maps: Rain, Road, Dynamic and Race to which three are added exclusively for the track and freely programmable.

The riding position has also been slightly revised. Thanks to the new frame, the tank is now narrower and together with a new shape of the saddle, it allows you to keep your knees tighter.

In summary, the BMW S 1000 RR is equipped as standard with: BMW Motorrad ABS, ABS PRO, DTC (Dynamic Traction Control), HSC (Hill Start Control), 4 riding modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic, Race), gearbox Pro electro-assisted, TFT display, LED turn signals and LED headlight and tail light. The price of the 'standard' version is 19.550 euros turnkey.

Team Technology Leader, Claudio De Martino, speaking about the bike said: “Our fascinating task was to take the previous model – which had been a dominant force in all disciplines for 10 years – and significantly improve its performance. This new bike is faster on the track, 10kg lighter and easier to control. These objectives were taken as the basis for every decision. The result is a fascinating new motorcycle that exceeds the objectives we have set ourselves and which will once again set the benchmark.”
