BMW S 1000 R: a summary of the characteristics of the new example [VIDEO]

The design, concept and character expressed by the new BMW S 1000 R. are among the topics of the film proposed by BMW Motorrad.

The motorcycle

Also present in the video is Maximilian Renko, BMW Motorrad Product Manager S 1000 R. On a technical level, the frame and swingarm are lighter and based on components from S 1000 RR. In the frame Flex Frame the engine has a more load-bearing function with a reduced chassis weight also considering a slim design. Overall, the weight reduction of the model amounts to 6,5 kg for 199 kg of weight (DIN) or 202 kg considering the Comfort and Dynamic packages. The aforementioned M package attenuates the figure by another 4,8 kg (2 kg with forged wheels / 3,7 kg with carbon fiber wheels), taking up the information.
The monoshock thanks to the kinematics Full Floater Pro figure now further away from the swingarm pivot and the engine. There is also a reduction in width in the knee contact area with a view to driving comfort. The adjustable handlebar attachment supports allow ergonomic adjustments. Two positions available as standard: 0 mm / +10 mm towards the front and 10 mm raised handlebar supports as an option.

Aesthetically, a new headlight stands out LED and the remaining lights are also LED. The rear indicators are taken from the S 1000 RR with an integrated rear/brake light function, while the front ones are visible in the fork area. Further support is the adaptive cornering light, a component of Headlight Pro reported as optional.
There is also a new instrument panel TFT from 6,5 inches manageable via a multi-controller and a Bluetooth smartphone interface is also indicated for application-based arrow navigation. The technological overview also includes: Dynamic Traction Control DTC, ABS Pro with optimization based on the lean angle and three driving modes: "Rain", "Road" and "Dynamic". Also indicated is the “Dynamic Pro” mode, which can be configured with a wide range of additional settings included in the optional “Riding Modes Pro”. In this case the example is enriched with an “Engine Brake” function as part of the engine drag torque control (MSR) and a “Power Wheelie” function. As part of the “Riding Modes Pro” option, the Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) solution supports the motorcyclist in the event of emergency braking, according to the information. Also on the list of possibilities is an optional M package which, according to reports, includes a third main screen with bar display and lap timer.

Engine and character

In addition to a self-reinforcing slipper clutch, an engine drag torque control (MSR) is optional.
The heart a four cylinders in line transmits 165 horses (121 kW) of power at 11.000 rpm, while the maximum torque of 114 Nm it is offered at 9.250 rpm with at least 90 Nm of torque from 5.500 to 12.000 rpm and more than 80 Nm already from 3.000 rpm, as reported. Gears 4, 5 and 6 are lengthened. Among the highlighted aspects also a lighter exhaust and the EU-5 regulation.
