The new BMW S 1000 R. It presents a muscular and streamlined aesthetic that anticipates a strong nature.

A sporting perspective

You notice a new lighthouse at LED of the model with a main headlight with optimized dipped and high beam beams and the remaining lights are also LED. The indicators behind them were taken from the S 1000 RR with an integrated rear/brake light function, while the front ones appear in the fork area. Further support is the adaptive cornering light, a component of Headlight Pro indicated as optional.
On a technological level, a new instrument panel also stands out TFT from 6,5 inches manageable via a multi-controller attached to the handlebar. There is also a Bluetooth smartphone interface for application-based arrow navigation.
Among the solutions present we also mention: Dynamic Traction Control DTC, ABS Pro with optimization based on the lean angle and three driving modes: "Rain", "Road" and "Dynamic". Also highlighted is the "Dynamic Pro" mode which can be configured with a wide range of additional settings included in the optional "Riding Modes Pro". In this case the example is enriched with an “Engine Brake” function as part of the engine drag torque control (MSR) and a “Power Wheelie” function. As part of the “Riding Modes Pro” option, the Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) solution supports the motorcyclist in the event of emergency braking, according to the information.
In one of the videos proposed by BMW Motorrad, an overview of the optional M package is also offered which, as reported, includes a third main screen with bar display and lap timer.

Technically, the frame and swingarm are based on elements of the S 1000 RR and made lighter. In the frame Flex Frame the engine has a more load-bearing function. The weight of the frame is reduced with a slim design, as is that of the example of 6,5 kg for 199 kg of weight (DIN) or 202 kg considering the Comfort and Dynamic packages. The aforementioned M package lowers the figure by another 4,8 kg (2 kg with forged wheels / 3,7 kg with carbon fiber wheels).
Thanks to the Full Floater Pro kinematics, the monoshock is now further away from the swingarm pivot and the engine. Solution that avoids the action of the heat deriving from the engine on the monoshock absorber, favoring greater stability of the operating temperature and a consistent damping response.
We then highlight a reduction in width in the knee contact area for a more comfortable driving position. The adjustable handlebar attachment supports allow you to make ergonomic adjustments. Two positions available as standard: 0 mm / +10 mm towards the front and 10 mm raised handlebar supports as an option.

Motor

The in-line four-cylinder engine offers 165 horses (121 kW) of power at 11.000 rpm, while the maximum torque of 114 Nm it is offered at 9.250 rpm with at least 90 Nm of torque transmitted from 5.500 to 12.000 rpm and more than 80 Nm already from 3.000 rpm, as indicated. Gears 4, 5 and 6 are lengthened. Among the highlighted aspects is also a lighter exhaust, considering the EU-5 regulation.
In addition to a self-reinforcing slipper clutch, an engine drag torque control (MSR) is optional.
