In 2023 BMW Motorrad reaches the goal of 100 years, a centenary remembered on the occasion with the presentation of two exclusive specimens: BMW R nineT 100 Years e R 18 100 Years. There are provisions for each 1.923 unit, a reference to the year of foundation.

The origins

The first signed motorbike BMW, the historical R32, was presented in September 1923, but already in December 1922 the chief designer Max Friz had started work on the first full-scale motorcycle. The first BMW motorcycle was powered by an air-cooled two-cylinder, four-stroke boxer engine, from here began an interesting production history that continues today.

Both powered by boxer engines, the new ones BMW R nineT 100 Years e R 18 100 Years they are characterized by various details that highlight a refined elegance, which recalls the tradition and construction experience of the Bavarian brand.
The design of the roadster and cruiser is strengthened by a guise Classic Chrome and from elements Option 719 . Chrome surfaces combined with high-quality paintwork stand out. Think for example of BMW R75/5 with chrome tank sides and side covers, another iconic example of BMW Motorrad production. This combination now takes shape again with these exclusive examples and the Classic Chrome surface concept, in the Heritage context of the German brand. A choice that recalls a historic tradition also linked to the activity in the BMW Motorrad production plant in Berlin, the birthplace of almost all BMW motorcycles for over 50 years.

The tank of BMW R nineT 100 Years it is covered in a combination of black and chrome with a double white piping. A 100 Years badge and protectors in the knee area are also visible. The black paint and the double white piping also return on the front mudguard, while another chrome plating can be found on the hump of the saddle. The aesthetic picture is also livened up by a two-tone black/oxblood saddle.
The model is combined with several black components, for example the fork tubes, the air intake snorkel and some elements of the Option 719, as reported.
The equipment of the special edition includes adaptive cornering lights and the Comfort package with heated grips, cruise control and Driving Modes Pro. Among the factory options is an anti-theft alarm system which can also be retrofitted, consulting the range of Accessories Original BMW Motorrad.
According to the information, the exclusive R nineT 100 Years also includes the Option 719 Shadow II milled parts package, consisting of adjustable handlebar levers and a footrest system, passenger footrests, as well as fluid expansion tank covers brakes and mirrors attached to the ends of the handlebars; the Option 719 Shadow milled parts package with milled cylinder head covers, engine crankcase covers, seat mounts, oil filler cap; then the 719 Classic wheel option with black anodized rims.

Moving on to BMW R 18 100 Years, as in the previous case, this too is covered in Classic Chrome with a black tint flanked by shiny chrome surfaces and embellished with a double white piping and the 100 Years badge. The Classic Chrome concept is also visible on the rear mudguard, again finished with a double white piping. The front mudguard and side covers are in black, and in this case the double white piping is present on the front mudguard. Among the various details, the seat of the Option 719 also stands out with a diamond embossing and a two-tone black/oxblood color.
There are numerous chrome parts in the Chrome design option, a high-quality galvanized coating found on: handlebar clamps, mirrors, gear shift and foot brake levers, handlebar counterweights, handlebar fittings, engine crankcase covers, covers cylinder head, intake manifold gaskets, brake calipers and brake master cylinders.
Other characterizing aspects are the chrome-plated Akrapovič rear silencers with perforated tailpipe finishes in the “propeller style”, a reference to the BMW logo.
Black is a colorway also dressed by the engine, rear axle drive and transmission housing. Specifically, it is an Avus Black, a reference to the famous high-speed track in Berlin, where BMW Motorrad was the protagonist.
Speaking of safety and comfort, we also highlight the Headlight Pro solutions with adaptive cornering light, electronic cruise control, heated grips and reversing device. Furthermore, as optional equipment, the exclusive BMW R 18 100 Years can be enhanced with Hill Start Control, passenger package, footpegs, power reduction, anti-theft alarm system and lockable fuel cap.

La BMW R nineT 100 Years It is always powered by an air/oil-cooled two-cylinder boxer engine 109 horses (80 kW), instead the BMW R18 100 Years features a voluminous boxer unit, the largest displacement ever installed by BMW Motorrad, which figures as the nerve center of this concept. The power reaches i 91 horses (67kW).
