They are models that recall the great cruisers and tourers of the past, noting for example the elegant details such as the double ring tubular frame, the 24 liter teardrop fuel tank, a double white stripe finish (optional ex works) and the cardan transmission open. The suspension part also refers to tradition, given a bilateral swingarm and a cantilever suspension system.

The instrumentation of both includes four analogue circular indicators and a color display TFT da 10,25 inches. For those who love music, a Marshall audio system is highlighted, created in collaboration with the British manufacturer, with 2-way speakers integrated into the front part of the fairing, black grilles and white Marshall lettering. There are also Marshall Gold Series Stage 1 and Stage 2 audio solutions proposed as optional ex works for enhanced listening, using up to 4 speakers and 2 subwoofers with 280 watts of total power.
Among the options we highlight: an assisted reverse gear and an Active Cruise Control (ACC) which promotes comfort with distance control through the aid of radar sensors integrated in the front fairing, therefore also a Hill Start Control function to facilitate uphill starts .
With the market launch, the versions are highlighted R 18 B First Edition e R 18 Transcontinental First Edition with distinctive features such as a black finish with a double white stripe, the words “First Edition” and high-quality stitching on the seat.
Also highlighted is a proposal of original BMW Motorrad accessories to customize the new models, adopting milled aluminum parts developed in collaboration with Roland Sands Design and exclusive options under the name "Option 719", such as the Option 719 Galaxy Dust metallic finish.

Setting

The frame of the models is a double cradle tubular steel type with a rear beam made of pressed sheet metal parts with welded joints between the steel tubes and forged or cast parts.
At the front there is a telescopic fork with fork covers and 49 mm stanchions, in the rear area a cantilever suspension system, as mentioned, mounted on the rear swingarm. The rear suspension includes a progressive shock absorber and automatic load compensation. Suspension travel amounts to 120 mm and the braking system consists of a double disc brake at the front and a single disc at the rear in combination with rigid four-piston calipers. The diameter of the disc is 300 mm in both cases and there is also a Full Integral ABS solution linked to BMW Motorrad.

The engine as mentioned is a “Big Boxers” twin-cylinder, a heart from 1.802 cc. The power touches i 91 horses (67 kW) at 4.750 rpm and between 2.000 and 4.000 rpm a torque above 150 Nm is expressed.
The arrangement of the footrests is extended or "central", placed behind the cylinders, favoring a comfortable and functional driving position. The new R 18 B is equipped with wider footrests than those of the R 18, while on the new R 18 Transcontinental the footrests are standard.
