BMW Motorrad – BMW Motorrad will showcase two important innovations during the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show, better known as CES, in Las Vegas, scheduled for January 6-9, 2016. The German brand will present a new laser light for motorcycles and a helmet with head-up display, thus trying to establish new safety standards for two-wheelers.

Seeing and being seen has always been one of the central axioms of motorcycle safety, which is why BMW Motorrad has been dedicating itself to the continuous development and optimization of motorcycle lighting units for some time. Over the years, in fact, adaptive headlights for cornering, LED daytime running lights and dynamic brake lights have been introduced. In the case of the BMW K 1600 GTL, we are talking about a laser light derived from a design created by the automotive division of the German group. The innovative laser technology is already available in the new 7 Series, as well as in the i8, while now BMW Motorrad has now adapted this new technology for its two-wheelers. Not only do laser headlights generate a particularly bright and pure white light, but they allow you to illuminate up to 600 meters with high beam function, double that of traditional headlights. Furthermore, laser technology has a much longer life, thanks to its compact and robust structure, and is free from any maintenance.

In road traffic, it only takes a fraction of a second or a brief distraction to put the driver in a potentially dangerous situation. In 2003, BMW was the first European car manufacturer to introduce the head-up display as an option for its cars, capable of projecting traffic or vehicle information directly into the driver's field of vision, which allows him to maintain a constant high your attention on the road, without distractions. This appears even more important on board a motorbike. In order to offer this technology also on the motorbikes of the future, BMW Motorrad has started a pre-development process on an innovative helmet with head-up display, which allows the projection of data directly into the rider's field of vision. This means that the driver no longer has to look at the dashboard and is able to concentrate fully and without distractions on the road traffic. All displays are freely programmable to provide the best possible support for pilot safety, as only truly useful and relevant information should be displayed to the pilot at all times. The BMW Motorrad head-up display helmet will also offer interesting possibilities to make the rider's experience more emotional and intense, but at the same time also safer. For example, an action camera located inside the helmet will be able to record our travel videos, while a second camera oriented towards the rear could at some point in the future perform the function of a "digital rearview". And last but not least, this technology also allows the visualization of other riders in a group of motorbikes. This allows the centaur to always see exactly where his traveling companions are.
