BMW Motorrad – The BMW Group will open a new production site at the end of 2016 in Manaus, Brazil. The new plant will create approximately 170 jobs and produce over 10.000 motorcycles in 2017 for the Brazilian market, where a significant growth in market volumes is expected thanks to the local assembly of the new BMW G 310 R. Eight other models will be produced in Manaus beyond the entry level in the sub-500cc segment.

For the BMW Group, Brazil represents a motorcycle market of strategic importance. With the new factory, BMW Motorrad is positioning itself in a growing market and is expanding its involvement in the South American country. “With our global growth strategy, we are opening up to emerging markets such as Brazil. The G 310 R plays an important role in convincing new and enthusiastic targets to approach BMW Motorrad”, said Stephan Schaller, Managing Director of BMW Motorrad.

Meanwhile, the BMW Group plant in Berlin will take on the role of lead plant for the start-up of the new motorcycle production plant in Manaus. "At the BMW Group, we place great importance on international production sites to further strengthen our market position. With the start of production in Manaus, the BMW Group Plant Berlin will look to support the international production network and the partners working there.” Schaller added. In 2015, the BMW Group sold approximately 2,247 million cars and 137.000 motorcycles worldwide. Profit before taxes for the 2015 financial year was 9,22 billion euros with revenues of approximately 92,18 billion euros. As of December 31, 2015, the BMW Group had 122.244 employees.
