BMW Motorrad: 40 years of GS history remembered by some protagonists [VIDEO]

A tale of passion that has lasted for years 40 years. GS identifies and summarizes the propensity to explore according to BMW Motorrad.

A long and interesting journey

In a film proposed by BMW Motorrad the GS history is remembered, recalling exploits and listening to great protagonists.
Different models linked to the same emotions, starting from the autumn of 1980 and the first R 80 G/S, a motorcycle designed for traveling on asphalt and also off-road. Functional aspects of a versatile chassis that immediately characterized this touring and enduro proposal. From there the acronym GS evolved together with the different examples, as described in a recent article article. Proposals like the most recent ones BMW F 750 GS e F 850 GS. A conceptual evolution of a saga that follows the F 650 GS, F 700 GS e G 800 GS. At the center is a twin-cylinder engine with two countershafts and an ignition timing of 270/450 degrees, optimizing character and sound. Considering an 853 cc engine, the power generated by the specimens amounts to 77 horses (57 kW) and 95 horses (70 kW), as indicated. We remember a refinement connected to the boxer engine, in the autumn of 2018, implementing ShiftCam technology for the first time, considering a variation in the timing and lift of the valves on the intake side. The intake camshafts are designed for asynchronous opening of the two intake valves. Other interventions are also mentioned.
