BMW M 1000 R: how to recall its strong character [VIDEO]
A series of steps while looking at the instrument panel
La BMW M 1000 R is the new two-wheeled vehicle signed M for 2023. In the video proposed by BMW Motorrad, on YouTube, highlights the technological potential of the model.
An energetic nature
In the video, the Product Manager of the M 1000 R, Dominik Blass, explains how to configure the bike to make it a "stuntbike". The shot is focused on 6,5-inch TFT instrumentation and follow the various steps marked on the occasion.
The instrument cluster features an M start-up animation and a new extended speed range display in red. Among the options we mention the material for the use of the M GPS Laptrigger and the M GPS Datalogger (Original BMW Motorrad Accessories), offered via an activation code via the OBD interface.
Moving on to the technical aspects, the fork features a top plate with a milled handlebar stem and there is a black aluminum tubular handlebar with a more extended design than that seen with the S 1000 R. The wording “BMW M 1000 R”. Also highlighted is the presence of forged aluminum handlebar mirrors and a steering damper that can also be managed with an intervention on the fork legs designed to accommodate the new M brake calipers.
It is the second model equipped with this type of braking system. The M brake calipers are distinguished by the M logo and a blue anodized coating. Together with the two 320 mm brake discs and the black anodized aluminum disc holders, the system includes a new radial master cylinder for the front brake which represents the current pinnacle in the development of brakes in the context of systems approved for road use. There is also a new Brake Slide Assist function for track driving enthusiasts. According to the indications, it allows the motorcyclist to brake by brushing when entering a curve with a constant drift.
The basic model is covered in a livery light white non-metallic / M Motorsport, then there is a combination Blackstorm metallic / M Motorsport included in M Competition package which further accentuates its sporting nature. The M Competition package represents the result of stylistic and technological research. Along with the Blackstorm metallic / M Motorsport livery, the package includes various elements that intensify the qualities of the model and M Carbon wheels with newly designed tapes. While light forged aluminum rims are provided as standard.
The M Design language immediately testifies to the bold nature of the BMW M 1000 R. The link between design and technological aspects can also be seen by observing the details, from the design of the front light cluster to the new M winglets linked to the sides of the frontal area, which support performance and stability considering an increase in the load on the front wheel of 11 kg at 220 km /h, in light of the downforce. According to the information, the aerodynamic resistance, due to the small additional frontal area and the shape of the M winglets, is compensated with a deflector placed in front of the instrument panel, taking into account the M Competition package.
The aluminum frame represents a central element and in the front area there is an upside down fork with a diameter of 45 mm in "All black" design and there are closed cartridge inserts with separate hydraulic piston-cylinder systems. Also reported is the possible adjustment of the fork spring preload in combination with the Dynamic Damping Control (DDC).
Engine and traction
The motorcycle is equipped with an a four cylinders in line modified and liquid-cooled, which is based on the S 1000 RR engine. Traction is supported by a secondary transmission ratio, more limited through the use of a 47-tooth crown, compared to the 45 teeth of the S 1000 R model. The transmission ratios of the fourth, fifth and sixth gears are shorter, as suggested.
The power touches i 210 horses (154 kW) at 13.750 rpm, a figure increased by 45 horsepower (33 kW) compared to the S 1000 R example. The torque reaches a value of 113 Nm at 11.000 rpm. Another interesting factor is the weight, considering an empty DIN value of 199 kg with a full load.
