The second M-branded bike for 2023 is the BMW M 1000 R, a powerful roadster with sophisticated technological solutions.

Sporty aesthetics

The language M Design immediately testifies to the sporting nature of the new one BMW M 1000 R. This symbiosis between aesthetics and technology emerges by observing the different details, from the design of the front light cluster to the tail, also noting in particular the new M winglet laterals that support performance and stability, given an increase in load on the front wheel of 11 kg at 220 km/h. The aerodynamic resistance, considering the small additional frontal area and the shape of the M winglets, is compensated with a deflector placed in front of the instrument panel, in the M Competition package.
The model is basically associated with a color light white non-metallic / M Motorsport, while a combination Blackstorm metallic / M Motorsport is connected to the M Competition package. A package resulting from stylistic and technological research which, together with the aforementioned Blackstorm metallic / M Motorsport livery, includes various elements that intensify the qualities of the bike such as the M Carbon rims equipped with newly designed tapes. Lightweight forged aluminum wheels come as standard.

Equipment and technical aspects

The instrumentation is visible on one 6,5 inch TFT screen with an M start-up animation and a new extended speed range display in red. Among the options we highlight the material for the use of the M GPS Laptrigger and the M GPS Datalogger (Original BMW Motorrad Accessories), offered via an activation code via the OBD interface.

The motorcycle frame is made of aluminum and appears as the central element. The chassis includes an upside-down fork with a diameter of 45 mm in "All black" design with closed cartridge inserts and separate piston-cylinder hydraulic systems. Fork spring preload adjustment possible in combination with Dynamic Damping Control (DDC). There is also a top plate with a milled handlebar stem and a black aluminum tubular handlebar with a more extended design than that visible on the S 1000 R. A wording also appears “BMW M 1000 R” laser engraved. The steering damper can also be managed with an intervention on the fork legs designed to accommodate the new M brake calipers. This is the second model equipped with this type of braking system. The M brake calipers feature an M logo and a blue anodized coating. In addition to the two 320 mm brake discs and the black anodized aluminum disc holders, the system includes a new radial master cylinder for the front brake. There is also a new Brake Slide Assist function for those who like to drive on the track. The handlebar mirrors are forged from aluminum.

Traction is supported by a secondary gear ratio, more limited through the use of a 47-tooth crown, compared to a 45-tooth type of the S 1000 R model, with shorter gear ratios of fourth, fifth and sixth gear.

Motor

The in-line four-cylinder engine is based on the propulsive heart of the BMW S 1000 RR example and is modified and liquid-cooled. The power reaches altitude 210 horses (154 kW) at 13.750 rpm, a value increased by 45 horsepower (33 kW) in comparison with the S 1000 R. The torque reaches a figure of 113 Nm at 11.000 rpm. Another important factor is the weight, given an empty DIN value of 199 kg with a full load.
