BMW EC 04 is a new concept of electric mobility described in the film proposed by BMW Motorrad on Youtube. A scooter recognizable by a futuristic aesthetic, a low center of gravity and a seat that favors an upright position. A technological means that allows you to interact dynamically in the urban context and also outside the city.

The technical characteristics

Florian Roemhild, Project Leader BMW CE 04, intervenes in the video. The new scooter is equipped with All-round LED with a front headlight for high beam and one for low beam. The rear light and directional indicators are also LED. Also noteworthy is the Headlight Pro adaptive cornering light system offered as an optional ex works, illuminating the curved path during the night hours. Among the ex works options there are also special light functions such as "Welcome" and "Good Bye".
The instrumentation is visible on a 10,25-inch TFT color screen with integrated map navigation and connectivity solutions. Then list three driving modes: "ECO", “Rain” e “Road” with an optional “Dynamic” to intensify the driving sensations. The programs maximize efficiency or driving pleasure as required.
Stability is favored by slip control through ASC (Automatic Stability Control), while a DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) is optional.
A traction control system comparable to the Automatic Stability Control of models with thermal drive units. ASC contains engine torque based on rear wheel slip. The Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), as an ex works option, offers additional safety by allowing safe acceleration in the banking position, as indicated.

Technique and propulsion

The frame is made up of a tubular steel structure, which is associated with a telescopic fork with a diameter of 35 mm and a single-sided rear swing arm. The rear suspension part features a directly controlled and covered spring structure axle. The braking system includes a double disc brake at the front and an additional single disc at the rear. Also mentioned is a latest generation ABS Pro system, offered as an optional, acting via a banking sensor to control braking even when cornering.
The scooter is equipped with a 120/70 R15 67H front tire and a 160/60 R15 56H rear tire.
The motor is a permanent magnet, liquid-cooled electric motor, located in the frame between the battery and the rear wheel. The nominal power is: 15 kW (20 horsepower) and the maximum reaches 31 kW (42 horsepower) and to sprint from 0 to 50 km/h, it takes 2,6 seconds. For the reduced power class L3e-A1 a power of 11 kW (15 horsepower) or 23 kW (31 horsepower). In any case, the maximum speed amounts to 120 km/h.
The lithium ion battery is from 60,6 Ah (8,9 kWh) and according to the indications the autonomy is approximately 130 kilometers. In the case of a reduced power version the figure reaches 100 km.
The battery is recharged via an integrated device, using either normal household sockets or even wallbox systems or public charging stations. If the battery is completely discharged, the charging time is approximately 4 hours and 20 minutes. Through the fast charger proposed as an optional with a power of up to 6,9 kW, considering a standard level it is 2,3 kW, the charging time is limited to just one hour and 40 minutes in the case of a completely discharged battery, according to the directions. Instead, with a level of 20 percent, to reach 80 percent the charging time amounts to 45 minutes via an optional fast charger, as reported.
