A trend fueled by the demand for sustainable mobility solutions. Growth in the Eurozone was driven in particular by demand for e-bikes, exceeding 5 million models purchased. Total sales, considering traditional and pedal-assisted bicycles, reached 19,7 billion euros; an increase of 7,5% compared to 2020, as recalled on the occasion.

In the past year the total investments of the sector were over 1,75 billion euros, +17% compared to the figure of 1,5 billion euros the previous year. Direct jobs in the manufacturing sector went from over 77.500 in 2020 to almost 87.000 in 2021, with a total figure for direct/indirect jobs in Europe of around 170.000. Of the over 1.000 SMEs present in Europe in 2020, a numerical growth of 5 to 10% is estimated in 2021.
Moving on to bicycle production ed e-bike, the CONEBI report signals an estimated increase of around 10% compared to 2020 with just over 16 million units in Europe in 2021. The production of parts and accessories also grew in 2021, reaching a value of 3,6 billion euros from 3 billion euros in 2020, as indicated.
