In commenting on the numbers from the latest annual report on the European bicycle industry and market by CONEBI (European Confederation of the Bicycle, E-Bike, Components and Accessories Industry), the president of Confindustria ANCMA (National Association of Cycle and Motorcycle Accessories), Paolo Magri, highlighted how the cycle sector is “driving”. An evolved industry “which last year alone generated a turnover of 3,2 billion euros in Italy, which offers employment and concrete solutions to the need for mobility that comes above all from urban contexts”.

In 2022 an overall slowdown in bicycle sales was noted, from 17,1 million units in 2021 to 14,7 millions of pieces, but a constant increase in demand for electric bikes, exceeding the 5,5 million models sold last year. A value of 21,2 billion euros in purchases of bicycles and electric bicycles in general was found, an increase of 7,4% compared to 2021.
Moving on to the production of bicycles, in 2022, 15,2 million examples were made in Europe, including 5,4 million e-bikes. A substantial increase in the production of parts and accessories for these vehicles was also reported, with a value exceeding 4,8 billion euros from a figure of 3,6 billion euros referred to 2021. Last year investments at an industrial level reached to 2 billion euros, an increase of 14% compared to the previous year's figure of 1,75 billion euros. Also indicated is a constant 3% increase in direct jobs in the sector from 2021, reaching in total approximately 180.000 direct/indirect jobs at European level.
The CONEBI report, proposed by ANCMA, highlights the growing trend of the European bicycle industry in 2022 with an increase in turnover and investments as well as record levels of sales of electric bicycles, while also considering a decline in that of traditional bicycles .
