BIG – Built in garage 2018, there is something for all tastes
Edition number 5 of the Milanese special contest
Each of us is different. Everyone has their own tastes, their own ideas, their own obsessions.
Especially when it comes to motorbikes, even more especially when it comes to special motorbikes, right?
At the fifth edition of the Built In Garage contest, more than fifty individuals decided to express all this by showing us their idea, their tastes and also demonstrating what they can do technically. The event allowed us to appreciate more than forty examples of homemade specials, er... in boxes, each different and with opposite characteristics in the usual location of Ciapa la Moto, in Milan.
We travel from the Japanese endurance style of a Suzuki GSX-R1100 (3rd place in the final) with a spot-on paint job on the frame and fairings (modified, obviously), to the "Dakarian" spirit of the completely technically revisited Honda Transalp.
Cafe Racer, Brat and Scrambler as if it were raining. All interesting, like the Honda CX 650 with lots of style to spare.
It was pleasant to discuss the molding carried out on the frame of a Ducati SS 750, a meticulous yet rare practice.
In short, during the contest we wander around the bikes out of curiosity, to drink a few beers (the exact number is a data not available) and also to discover that there is always something unexpected around the corner like an extreme Buell with two bands of LEDs on the elongated front fender: the owner returned home in the dark, if you were wondering about the functionality of this solution.
Congratulations to the winner, the owner of the BMW R1100S, tribute to the glorious R5 and R51. There are many specials from the Bavarian brand around, some too similar to each other, but this one was worth seeing.
Glory also to the imaginative winner of the Moped category (all strictly single gear) and her Ciahopper: a Piaggio Ciao modified (chopper obviously) with the same attention to detail as a "real" motorbike.
There was a great sense of satisfaction among the ranks of the competitors, who exhibited the fruit of their long research and the implementation of their ideas. I believe that, if we added up all the hours of work needed to create all the motorcycles on display, they would exceed those needed to build the TAV, or create an Airbus A380, but ultimately the desire to show others what you can do and what your tastes are , makes us forget this useless arithmetic operation. In the end, for what my tastes are, judging according to my ideas, IMHO, I can state with extreme certainty that at the Built In Garage Contest you can see special motorbikes and motorcyclists, friends and enthusiasts, experts and outsiders spending a nice evening together .
Prizes offered to the winners thanks to the partnership with Shark, Bagster, Segura and Mjus-RBL, but above all the glory and pleasure of having been selected as the best of the evening.
