Anyone who lives in Milan or Rome has heard the curious hiss of the electric motor on the street at least once Askoll e2, the Italian zero-emission scooter adopted by many urban mobility providers. The Venetian company presents the makeover named EVOlution, which also affects the most powerful version e3 and which introduces interesting innovations from a technological point of view. Let's find out them in detail.

Motor

The new Askoll eS2 EVOlution it is equipped with a highly energy efficient brushless electric motor that develops a power of 2.2 kW and a torque of 130 Nm detected at the wheel, with a maximum speed of 45 km/h. There are two battery packs, positioned in the compartment under the saddle, and offer a overall capacity of 2,1 kWh for 7,6 kg of weight. The total weight stands at just 67 kg (without battery pack) and allows a range of up to 71 km on a full charge. The “big brother” eS3 EVOlution differs for the power which comes to 2.7 kW, while the torque remains unchanged. The maximum speed is 66 km/h and batteries increased to 2,8 kWh they guarantee an autonomy of up to 96 km. The weight, net of the battery pack, increases by 3 kg and reaches a total of 70 kg.

Aesthetics

Aesthetically they are almost identical, with the new matte silver color GreyEVO. The differences lie in the contrasting details on the side fairings and rims, blue for e2 and fluorescent yellow for e3, and for the front light Full LED, present only on e3. The two-seater saddle has also been modified: it is longer and more ergonomic to make the journey of any passenger more comfortable,
Both versions now share brand new digital instrumentation with a monochrome very readable and with an attractive interface, which shows us all the essential information, such as speed, distance travelled, time and remaining autonomy of each of the two batteries. The real revolution is the integrated connect system: via app dedicated Askoll Smart Drive, available for smartphones Android e iOS, you can monitor the status of the vehicle, the quantity of CO2 which we saved by choosing an electric motor and even notifications on periodic maintenance.

Road test

We got on the new bike Askoll eS3 EVOlution for a short test. Getting on and off the vehicle is easy even for those who are not tall, thanks to the seat height of 76 cm from the ground. The scooter is incredibly easy to handle, thanks to the weight of only 78,1 kg with the two batteries and narrow tires mounted on 16-inch wheels. Tires that are now dual-compound, with a harder central part to improve stability and mileage, while the shoulder band is softer to guarantee greater grip when cornering. Braking is very good thanks to the presence of a larger disc at the front (220 mm in diameter compared to 190 mm on thee2) and the combined braking system CBS, which allows reduced stopping distances. Accelerations are lively, perfect for a city context, and acceleration is excellent, as expected from an electric engine. Comfortable front compartment with lock, equipped with 12 V socket, and the top box with small backrest for the passenger. The suspensions they are hydraulic and well calibrated, even if they don't work miracles on uneven surfaces (you bounce a little) and the front feels light at higher speeds. Autonomy it would seem to be in line with i values declared by the company (96 km): the battery percentage has practically remained unchanged, although a more in-depth test would be needed.

Pricing

Il new Askoll eS3 EVOlution coastline 3.990 €, while the 'eS2 EVOlution part from 3.490 €. Prices are quite high compared to the competition with internal combustion engines, but the advantages are many, from discounts on insurance to free road tax for 5 years, without considering the discounts derived from eco-incentives.
