ASI: "Certificate of Identity" for the historic Ducati 175s around the world [PHOTO]

Carried out between 1957 and 1958

Attributed by Technical Commission of the Italian Historic Automotoclub il “Certificate of Identity” to the historical ones Ducati 175, protagonists together with Leopoldo Tartarini e George Monetti of a world tour completed between 1957 and 1958.

Ducati 175

The route was completed far away 5 September of the 1958. Tartarini and Monetti, also encouraged via telegram by the then general director of Ducati Giuseppe Montano, rode over 60.000 kilometers along five continents. They faced difficult moments, thinking back for example to what Tarantini said and the climate of war on the journey to Syria, or to the arrest for suspected espionage in Indonesia, as remembered. But in the end they completed the feat successfully. Evidence of that experience can still be seen today on the frames, tanks and wheels of the Ducatis.
They are examples of a representative series in the production path of the Emilian manufacturer, who had created the famous one after the war "Cub" and subsequently the 60 cc light motorcycles. With the arrival of the engineer Fabio Taglioni (2020 also commemorates the centenary of its birth), the Emilian brand faced its competitive commitments in the "gran Fondo" of the 50s and the Ducati 175, developed to tackle medium and long distance routes and equipped with a more performing single-cylinder with bevel gear pairs.
The model was presented at the Milan Motor Show in 1956, equipped with an open single-cradle frame in steel tubes combined with a telehydraulic front fork and swingarm rear suspension and two shock absorbers. The engine with single overhead camshaft distribution derived from the heart that animated the Gran Sport, as mentioned. A four-stroke single-cylinder engine inclined forward by 10° which, depending on the versions, offered 11 to 14 horsepower of power.

Certification

A special post approval “on the level of historicity, on the relationship between matter and experience, on the metaphysical story of the two motorcycles”, taking up the press note. A certification that preserves and recalls a history linked to men and means.
The particular homologation session took place in Porretta Terme (Bologna), underlining the collaboration of the local Auto Moto Storiche Bagni della Porretta club. It was possible to admire the two examples reunited again after some time and meet Giorgio Monetti, one of the protagonists and witnesses of the undertaking. Unfortunately Leopoldo Tartarini passed away in 2015, but his memories continue to be present in the book “Road Map” (LullaBit edition, 2018) and in the docufilm “Una mappa per due” (PopCult production, 2013).
