Guard rail guillotine, goodbye. Perhaps. Yesterday afternoon, Graziella Viviano met with the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Danilo Toninelli to ask that the law implementing the European legislation on guardrails be approved in Italy so that motorcyclist-saving devices are installed in the most critical road sections, where it is highest the probability of fatal accidents occurring.

Guardrail: finally a rule to save motorcyclists

After the meeting, the Minister wanted to have his say via his Facebook profile: “It's absurd to die because of a guardrail that's supposed to protect you. Even more absurd to think that this happens not because of a money problem, but only because there is no rule that obliges those who manage the roads to install protection suitable for scooter riders and motorcyclists. This is why I wanted to welcome to my ministry and listen to the testimony of Graziella Viviano, Elena Aubry's mother - it is read -. His pain has turned into a very important civil battle for the safety of travellers, a central theme of my mandate. I wanted to talk to Graziella and tell her that the ministerial decree long awaited by her and many citizens is finally arriving. An old draft had remained buried under who knows what paperwork. Now a new text from my ministry, finalized last October, is being viewed by the European Union which will be able to express any comments by next 28 February. If everything goes as smoothly as we expect, the rule will soon be in force and will oblige the managers of our roads to install DSMs, the Motorcyclist Saving Devices, at the base of the guardrails, in the most dangerous sections and with a high confirmed accident rate. Protecting those who travel on two wheels is a historic battle of the 5 Star Movement, which began in Parliament at the beginning of the last legislature. This rule will finally put Italy at the forefront of the European Union, because there is nothing more important than the safety and health of those who move".
Graziella Viviano is the mother of Elena Aubry, the 25-year-old girl who, on 6 May 2018, was riding along Via Ostiense on her Honda Hornet 600 when, due to a series of dips imperceptible to the naked eye, she lost control of the motorbike and ended up against a guardrail and then against a tree, sustaining fatal injuries. Mrs Viviano will be a guest on Saturday 19 January at the Motor Bike Expo 2019 in Verona (pavilion 7, stand 13D) to meet the public at 16pm. Alongside her there will be representatives of AMI,Incolumi Motorcyclists Association Onlus founded in 2003 by doctors and engineers with the aim of improving the road safety of motorcyclists and correcting those regulations that are dangerous to their safety.
