The new Navigator V by BMW Motorrad arrives

BMW Motorrad presents the new Navigator V It equipped with a TFT 5-inch large and bright, as well as functions designed to meet the needs of the motorcyclist. The premium-class GPS navigation system capable of supporting Bluetooth connections is a reliable guide in Europe not only on and off-road, but also when not used on the motorcycle. With a car mounting kit, the powerful GPS can also be used as a navigator in a car. The navigation system can be used as a hands-free phone for Bluetooth mobile phones, thanks to the speaker and microphone integrated into the holder.

The navigation unit is available with or without pre-installed maps of Europe and North America. If a customer opts for the version with pre-installed maps, he receives unlimited access to map updates (Lifetime Map Updates – LMU). To plan routes, the user can download the Base Camp route planning software for free from www.garmin.com or install it directly from the installation file on the navigation device itself. The memory capacity of the Navigator V can be expanded up to 64 GB using an additional SD card slot.

The new travel technology with which the Navigator V is equipped defines the most advanced there is regarding itinerary planning and route selection. It allows the user to create longer, more detailed journeys with up to 3.750 shaping points per journey. Navigation instructions – for example, via Bluetooth using the BMW Motorrad communication system – are partially verbalized using Real Directions. For this, the route is described using clearly visible orientation points. Instead of saying “turn left in 100 metres”, the system says: “turn left at the yellow church”. For safe off-road navigation, the Navigator V features a large compass.

The map zoom is precisely graduated and offers many convenient elements such as a lane assistant and a three-dimensional display of buildings in many cities. One of the many other options offered to the motorcyclist by the Navigator V is PhotoNavigation: encoded geographic images stored in the device can be clicked to start navigation to that location. The device features a true trip computer, a “home” function for quick guidance to your home address and direct line off-road navigation from point to point.

The Garmin Smartphone Link is available as an option and offers a lot of useful information during your trip. The free Smartphone Link App is also available from the Google Play store and the iOS app store. After pairing the smartphone with the Navigator V, free available content, such as weather forecasts, as well as live services (subject to payment), such as real-time information on traffic jams and detailed weather forecasts can be called up. The Navigator V is compatible with the free Garmin BaseCamp trip planning software. This can be used to easily create routes and landmarks or stop and trace and transfer the results to your navigation device.

Thanks to the four-button holder, the waterproof and petrol-resistant shell of the Navigator V can be securely attached to the motorcycle and easily operated, even if you wear gloves while riding. On the R 1200 GS and K 1600 GT/GTL models, many functions can also be controlled directly using the multi-controller on the left of the handlebar.

The BMW Motorrad Navigator V is powered by an integrated, replaceable lithium-ion battery that provides up to four hours of battery life. While riding, the battery is recharged by the motorcycle's on-board electrical system. It can also be recharged via a mini USB to your computer or using an optional charging device. It also comes with a micro USB cable, a handy bag, a screwdriver and permanent map updates (this only applies to the European and North American versions).
