The shells will be smoother and therefore more protective

Arai – Arai presented its new range of racing helmets. The pivot point of the visor drops 24 millimeters compared to the existing RX-7GP and this means that a smooth shape on a larger surface area of the shell allows for an Arai called “glancing off” action in the event of an accident. The idea is that a smooth shape is able to distribute the impact load and help reduce the chance of possible damage to the rider's head.

La small tab to open or close the visor Arai can be complicated to use, to overcome this the new version of Arai racing helmets was gifted with the one used by F1 drivers, which is more substantial and looks like it will be easier to use. The plastic spoiler seen on the top of the helmet it is there to help extract hot air from inside the helmet which is why it is 20mm longer than before, to increase airflow and improve high-speed aerodynamics. Arai stated that it flows into the new helmet 11% more air compared to the existing helmet, thanks to the diffuser and air intakes which are 19% larger than the current ones.

Arai insists that a more rounded and, therefore, smooth shell is more protective, but which is also 30 grams lighter thanks to a new type of resin. Additionally, changes in the repositioning of the visor pin mean 3 millimeters more space for the rider's mouth and chin. Finally, the different thicknesses of foam used for the internal lining of the new Arai helmets mean greater comfort for riders who can change the size to adapt to the shape of their head. The lining is made of a new material called Eco-Pure, which is also anti-bacterial.

Il new Arai helmet will be released in the UK later this year, priced at approx 600 pounds for the plain colour e 700 for the version with graphics.
