Aprilia RSV4 R ABS and Factory ABS, the new frontiers of technology

From the successes achieved in SBK comes the new RSV4 range

The new frontier of technology – new Aprilia RSV4 R ABS e Factory ABS they represent the state of the art of modern technology and achieve the objective of making absolute what was already maximum in the previous versions, loved and appreciated by motorcyclists and pilots all over the world, not only for their exceptional chassis and engine qualities, but also thanks to the advanced dynamic control systems adopted. L'APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) is the well-known package of control systems directly derived from the winning technology in the Superbike world championship, the most complete and refined among those currently on the market.

On the new RSV4 R ABS and Factory ABS MY 2013, the APRC has been further improved.e evolved and refined, to adapt even better to the specific needs of the amateur on the road and the professional driver on the track. Now the behavior of the system is even more homogeneous, guaranteeing high support in bends at high speeds without penalizing traction when exiting slow bends.

The new APRC, standard on Aprilia RSV4 R and Factory ABS MY 2013 includes:

-          ATC: Aprilia Traction Control, the traction control which can be adjusted while running, without closing the throttle, on 8 levels thanks to a practical joystick on the left half-handlebar, gains even more high-performance and refined intervention logics

-          AWC: Aprilia Wheelie Control, the wheelie control system, adjustable on three levels, has been recalibrated for greater performance;

-          ALC: Aprilia Launch Control, the starting control system for exclusive track use, adjustable on 3 levels;

-          AQS: Aprilia Quick Shift, the electronic gearbox, for change very quickly without closing the throttle and without using the clutch.

The new APRC integrates even better with the electronic management end full Ride by Wire multimap of the powerful V4 engine.

In addition to the second generation APRC, both MY 2013 versions of the RSV4 come standard with highly advanced ABS, the anti-lock wheel system designed and developed to guarantee not only maximum safety on the road, but also the best performance on the track. Aprilia worked closely with Bosch to define the best calibration of the 9MP ABS unit, which represents the pinnacle of refinement and technology currently available. The system, weighing just 2 kg, can be deactivated and adjusted to 3 intervention levels, easily accessing the control menu of the sophisticated instrumentation:

-            Level 1 Track: it is dedicated to the track (but is also approved for road use), acts on both wheels and guarantees the maximum possible performance, even during the most intense braking at any speed. It does not take anything away from the pleasure and performance of driving "at the limit".

-            Level 2 Sports: it is dedicated to sports driving on the road, it acts on both wheels and is combined with an advanced system anti-tipping (RLM – Rear Lift-up Mitigation) whose intervention is progressive based on the speed of the vehicle.

-            Level 3 Rain: it is dedicated to driving on surfaces with poor grip, it acts on both wheels and is combined with the advanced anti-tipping system.

Each of these 3 ABS maps can be combined with any of the 3 engine maps (Track, Sport, Road), to allow riders of different experience and ability to find the best possible combination.

In detail, the 2013 models of the new Aprilia RSV4 range can be recognized by the different finish of the front mudguard (R version only), by a new satin finish of the front light unit and by the new exhaust silencer end cap.

The most obvious aesthetic change concerns the new fuel tank, which has been modified not only to facilitate the positioning of the ABS control unit, but also to increase the driving range and improve the ergonomics of the pilot: in fact the total capacity passes from 17 to 18,5 litres, while the lateral sides introduce shapes that increase the rider's feeling when braking and cornering. Solution directly borrowed from the Aprilia RSV4 involved in the Superbike world championship.

For the version R New graphics are also expected, an aggressive matte black which enhances its technicality.

More performance from the chassis and engine – With the aim of improving the already exceptional decelerating capabilities of the RSV4, the new Aprilia RSV4 R ABS and Factory ABS present an unprecedented front braking system, of which the refined monobloc calipers stand out Brembo M430 with radial connection and the new radial pump on the handlebar.

La rear brake caliper it has been replaced with a more advanced and effective one, perfecting the combination with the new front brake. In the delicate and important braking phase, optimal weight distribution is important: for this purpose the RSV4 ABS engine benefits from a different positioning within the frame.

The possibility of adjusting the position of the engine within the frame is a peculiarity usually reserved for racing motorbikes which distinguishes the RSV4 from all other motorbikes in the segment. This, together with a different pivot adjustment of the swingarm, guarantees greater stability and control of the motorbike during more intense braking; at the same time it allowed the height of the saddle to be lowered from the ground to 840 mm, to the advantage of riders of all heights.

The close derivation of the Aprilia RSV4 R ABS and Factory ABS from the world of racing is evident from the characteristics of the engine, the first mass-produced high-performance narrow V 4-cylinder in the world, the most revolutionary and powerful engine ever built by Aprilia. Engine made unique and unmistakable thanks to the use of "total" electronics, with its record-breaking lightness and extreme compactness.

The engine of the new RSV4 MY 2013 has been updated and improved, with particular attention to reducing internal friction and crankcase ventilation. The maximum power of the 4° V65 thus rises to 184 HP, while the torque now reaches 117 Nm, also thanks to a redesigned exhaust system and refined electronic management. The 3 distinct maps (Track, Sport and Road) have been tuned to the new power and torque characteristics of the V4, in order to obtain an even fuller and fuller delivery at any rpm.
