Ape Piaggio arrives in Cambodia

For the Piaggio Group, the Asian market has acquired more and more importance over the years given their growing economic development which is giving rise to mobility needs, including for work.

With a view to becoming the reference brand for light commercial vehicles, Piaggio has launched the marketing of Ape in Cambodia, the brand that revolutionized light commercial mobility in India and Europe and which this year celebrates 70 years since its birth .

With 10.375 vehicles imported in the first half of 2018, compared to 668 vehicles imported in the same period of 2017, Cambodia represents one of the most dynamic markets with high growth potential in the ASEAN area for the light commercial vehicle segment.

In Cambodia, the Ape was launched in the Ape City LPG version, intended for the transport of people: easy to maneuver in the city, with low consumption and green fuel, robust and safe, it represents an innovative solution to meet mobility needs, particularly in the capital Phnom Penh and the Siem Reap tourist region.

In developing countries, Ape is commonly used as a taxi service in the peripheral areas of large cities, thus responding to travel needs not satisfied by local public transport.

Over the years, Ape has also allowed the development of an entrepreneurial micro-network, based on itinerant shops, mainly linked to street food, or small transporters thanks to the Ape Cargo version.

In the commercial vehicle sector, the Piaggio Group closed 2017 with worldwide sales of 176.800 units, for a net turnover of 391,9 million euros.
In the Indian market in the freight transport (Cargo) segment, Piaggio is the leader with a market share of 48,8%.
