Yamaha acquires Torqeedo, leader in marine electric motors

yamaha Motor completed the acquisition of Torqeedo, a leading company in the marine electric motor sector. After several weeks of rumors, the official announcement has arrived on the conclusion of the operation with the purchase of shares by the Japanese manufacturer of shares from the German engine manufacturer Deutz AG which in 2020 had taken over Torqeedo from founder Christoph Ballin.

Turning point for Yamaha Motor's marine strategy

The acquisition is a clear signal of the radical change that the marine strategy of Yamaha Motor is about to make, until now marginally present in the sector with small electric outboard motors. The objective of the Japanese group is to aim for energy neutrality in the marine sector e develop a line of electric motors.
