90 years of fascination brought together in the new BMW R nineT

The ideal gift to celebrate the "90 years BMW Motorrad" anniversary

La BMW R nineT presents itself on the occasion of the anniversary “90 years BMW Motorrad” with a purist, powerful and fairing-less image. The original character of the Boxer engine and the formal language of the various motorcycle eras have merged with innovative technique and a modular concept that offers the rider the highest level of customization. Reduced to the essentials, the BMW R nineT – nineT for short – also fascinates with its character that testifies to manufacturing workmanship and a strong emotional charge.

The classic Roadster presents itself with a concept that reflects the desire of many motorcycling enthusiasts to experience authentic motorbike riding pleasure, not compromised by stress. Consequently, the priorities in developing the design of the nineT were attributes such as “purist simplicity”, “emotions” and “authentic, traditional materials”. In the nineT, the traditional stylistic features of motorcycle engineering have combined with ultra-modern propulsion and chassis components, creating a motorcycle that cannot fail to excite and invites both relaxed outings and sporty, dynamic riding on extra-urban roads.

The engine is the classic Boxer engine
Like the first BMW motorcycle from 1923, the legendary BMW R 32, the new BMW R nineT relies on the classic and lively Boxer engine as its powertrain. For 90 years now its construction principle has been synonymous with unmistakable design, round torque performance and a unique sound. The Boxer with a displacement of 1170 cm3 with air/oil cooling was mounted in the nineT. The engine delivers 81 kW (110 HP) at 7750 rpm and develops a maximum torque of 119 Nm at 6000 rpm.

The concept is based on a high level of personalization and customizing
The nineT brings together 90 years of BMW Motorrad DNA and, thanks to its unique concept, was created to satisfy the requests of customizing fans. Extensive customization possibilities based on personal preferences were the focus during the development of the purist Roadster. The range of possible modifications varies from original BMW accessories to components to be retrofitted and accessories produced as individual pieces by motorcycle tuners, so as to create a truly unique example.

An important aspect that makes the high level of customization of the nineT possible is the particular frame concept. The double-spar steel frame developed especially for the nineT integrates the boxer engine as a load-bearing element. The basic frame construction always consists of a front frame section with integrated steering head and a rear section with arm support.

The passenger frame is removable and allows you to ride the nineT as a motorcycle for two or, for an absolutely authentic image, alone. Completed by a seat cover offered as an original accessory, the nineT exudes the charm of a single-seater motorcycle, taking inspiration from the first "Café Racers".

Exhaust system moved to the left side with double exhaust pipe and possibility of modification
The concept of a classic/sporty Roadster motorcycle is reflected in the exhaust system moved to the left with two overlapping tailpipes. Numerous customization options are offered within the range of original BMW Motorrad accessories. The nineT gets a particularly technical look thanks to the titanium Akrapović system. Via a short or long connecting pipe, the exhaust pipe can be mounted low or high, thus radically changing the image and character of the nineT.

Traditional chassis configuration combined with high-performance technology

In the BMW R nineT the classic Telelever of the BMW Motorrad models with Boxer engines has been replaced by an upside down telescopic fork taken from the S 1000 RR super sports car. The result is a classic style combined with highly sophisticated technique. The rear suspension is made as a Paralever arm with central monoshock.

The rear differential housing has three attachment points to attach, for example, the license plate holder and to mount the license plate or the lighting device on the side. Furthermore, the single-sided configuration of the nineT allows the 17-inch, 5,5-inch-wide stock wheel to be replaced with a 6-inch-wide example and the bike to be homologated separately.

In its quality as a thoroughbred roadster motorcycle, the nineT designed in the style of the historic models is equipped with spoked wheels with black anodized flat-shoulder alloy wheels, black aluminum wheel hubs and stainless steel spokes. Together with radially mounted 4-piston monobloc brake calipers, floating caliper brake discs with a diameter of 320 millimeters and BMW Motorrad ABS ensure absolutely safe deceleration.

Purist design with unique character
One of the priority design objectives was to reduce the superstructure elements as much as possible in favor of a purist image. Contemplating the nineT, one can also recognize in many components the love for detail that influenced the work of stylists and engineers.

The aluminum tank with a capacity of 18 liters has sides carefully brushed by hand and subsequently treated with a dedicated coating. The aluminum cover with the engraved nineT writing, applied on the right above the intake duct, is another example of the character of the nineT.

The surfaces of numerous forged aluminum components, such as the upper bracket or the handlebar attachment with the BMW Motorrad lettering, were sandblasted with glass beads and then naturally anodized. The historic models from 90 years of BMW Motorrad are also reflected in the circular headlight with the BMW emblem applied centrally on the bulb cover.

The color selection followed the special character of the nineT and comes in a classic black (Black Storm metallic) with contrasting silver and metal elements.

Special on-board net to leave plenty of room for customizing
A special configuration of the on-board network offers technical possibilities that facilitate the use of alternative components, for example different headlights or direction indicators.
